A senior nuclear negotiator stressed Iran will not agree to be subject to inspections beyond the legal framework of the Additional Protocol.
“The Additional Protocol is aimed at building up confidence,” Abbas Araqchi told state TV on Tuesday, adding, “We have refused, and will do so, to accept any inspection regime beyond (the provisions of) the Additional Protocol and will take confidence-building measures within the framework of the Additional Protocol and (legitimate) interpretations of its contents.” Asked to comment on the committees reportedly to be formed to deal with the implementation of the Additional Protocol, the deputy foreign minister said, “We will not recognize any committee or institution operating beyond the jurisdiction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” IRNA reported.
