Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal has called for a peaceful settlement of the dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Addressing the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sunday, he said Riyadh “is still attaching great importance to tackling the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully through the current P5+1 negotiations, through guaranteeing the right of peaceful use of energy for Iran upon international measures and regulations that not differentiate between any of the region’s countries,” the Saudi-US Relations Information Service reported.

Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) are engaged in talks on a final comprehensive deal to resolve the nuclear dispute. They have set a target date of November 24 to reach a long-term settlement to the issue which would impose constraints on Tehran’s nuclear work for a specified period of time in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
