A lawmaker said Friday the law on political parties will be discussed in the open session of the Majlis next week. “The issue was put on the parliament’s agenda last week and we will start discussing details in the coming days,” Mehrdad Lahouti was quoted by IRNA as telling state TV. Underlining the role and participation of political parties in the upcoming legislative elections, he said parties should be given the opportunity to defend their views in the media and their policies should be put to public vote at the polls. Another MP Abolqasem Raoufian stressed the need to table a motion that will identify the financial resources candidates use to fund their election campaigns. Such a bill “can help prevent the society and its institutions from being infested with dirty money and potential problems in the upcoming elections for the parliament and Assembly of Experts,” both scheduled for early 2016.
