The United Nations in a statement released in Friday confirmed that Iran will attend a peace conference on Syria, Fars news agency reported. The world body said the Islamic Republic will be present in the meeting starting Monday in Geneva to find a peaceful solution to the protracted conflict in Syria. In a note correspondents, a UN spokesperson confirmed that Staffan de Mistura, the UN secretary-general’s special envoy on Syria had invited “as many of the parties as possible” to the Geneva consultations on Syria scheduled to begin on 4 May at the UN Headquarters in Geneva and expected to last for an initial period of five to six weeks.
