The foreign ministry spokesperson denounced the Saudi move to bomb Sana’a airport on Tuesday to prevent an Iranian plane landing, describing it as “inhuman” and “spiteful”.

“The military moves made by the Saudi planes are aimed at putting further pressure on the innocent Yemeni people,” Marzieh Afkham was quoted by ISNA as saying in a statement issued on Wednesday, calling on international organizations, particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross, to help facilitate the delivery of food and medical aid to Yemen.

The statement came after air force planes from the Saudi-led coalition bombed the runway of Yemen’s main airport to stop an Iranian flight carrying medical aid from landing. Two Iranian cargo planes destined for Yemen had also been intercepted by Saudi fighter jets last week and were forced to leave Yemen’s airspace, over which the foreign ministry summoned the Saudi chargé d’affaires to hear Iran’s protest.
