The Majlis speaker said Iran and the Philippines hold common views about such issues as the Iranian nuclear activities and the need to help establish security in the region and elevate the level of bilateral economic collaborations.
Ali Larijani made the remarks in a joint press conference with his visiting Filipino counterpart Feliciano Belmonte after their meeting on Tuesday.
Larijani said in the meeting the two officials discussed issues of mutual interest, including efforts to enhance parliamentary and economic ties, and addressed the challenges facing bilateral relations.
They had also exchanged views on the latest regional developments, especially in Syria and Yemen, and discussed the implications of terrorism at global level and the role of certain countries in creating tension in the region.
The speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, for his part, referred to a 50-year-old history behind “close relations” between the two countries. Belmonte described Iran as a “hub of stability” in the Middle East region, saying the Islamic Republic will continue to serve the role.
He said the two sides discussed Middle East and Southeast Asian issues and stressed that the rights of all nations need to be respected.
On the issue of terrorism, Belmonte said it is a threat to all countries and needs to be addressed.
