Rafsanjani: Riyadh on Wrong Path

The chairman of the Expediency Council denounced Saudi Arabia’s continued airstrikes against Yemen, saying Saudi officials are following a wrong path, which has bred hatred among the Yemenis.

“By choosing a bad path when it came to office, the new Saudi government has hurt the feelings of Muslims, sowing the seeds of hatred in the hearts of the Yemeni people,” Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was quoted by IRNA as saying. He made the remarks in an address to a gathering of workers on Sunday, ahead of International Workers’ Day, which is celebrated annually on May 1.

Referring to the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany) on Tehran’s nuclear program, Rafsanjani said, “Iran is willing and enjoys good potential to improve its interaction with the world and expand its bilateral relations and cooperation with other countries.”

Elsewhere, the senior cleric pointed to efforts by the Israeli regime to interfere with the process of nuclear talks through depicting Iran as a threat, saying, “Iran, which is a safe country, not only means no harm to any other country, but also will be a cause of improved and lasting security and stability in the region.”
