The navy’s 35th fleet plans to leave for the Gulf of Aden to protect the security of shipping lanes.

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday the flotilla will depart for the strategic region on July 11, Press TV reported.

He added that the 34th flotilla has a 90-day mission to accomplish in the north of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, the Bab al-Mandeb strait and the Red Sea.

The 34th flotilla, which comprises the logistic vessel Bushehr and the destroyer Alborz, left the southern port city of Bandar Abbas for the Gulf of Aden on April 8.

Sayyari said fighting pirates and ensuring security for Iranian vessels sailing in the high seas are among the objectives of the 35th flotilla.
