Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif leading a delegation of political and nuclear officials left Tehran on Sunday for New York to attend the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which started at the UN Headquarters today and will run until May 22, ISNA reported.
The foreign minister is scheduled to deliver a speech to the conference and meet his counterparts to discuss bilateral ties and hold talks with officials of international organizations on global issues.
In addition, Zarif will meet EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and his counterparts from the P5+1 (the five permamant members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) to hold nuclear talks. Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry are expected to meet today. A nuclear meeting at the level of deputy foreign ministers is also planned to be held on the fringes of the event later this week.
