Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani met Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to discuss the critical situation in the region, IRNA reported on Friday.
Praising the resistance of the Syrian government and nation, Larijani said opponents of the Syrian government have now come to realize that "they need to respect the will of the Syrian nation."
The speaker also called on the countries that have friendly relations with Damascus to play a more effective role to help restore peace and stability in the Arab country. He also warned of the ongoing crises in Yemen and Syria, saying the continuation of the conflicts can endanger other Muslim countries as well.
Mekdad, for his part, appreciated Iran's support of his government and nation, saying the Islamic Republic has backed efforts to bring stability to his county since the beginning of the crisis.
Emphasizing that Syria will continue to defend its solidarity and territorial integrity against intruders, he noted that the region benefits from peace in Syria.
