The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee described Iran and Iraq as members of the "same family" and said the outlook for greater cooperation between the two countries is bright in all respects.

Lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with Undersecretary of Iraq's Foreign Ministry Nazar Khairallah on Wednesday, ICANA reported. Congratulating Iraq's government and nation on their gains in the campaign against the so-called Islamic State (IS) militant group, Boroujerdi highlighted the role of leading Iraqi clerics in combating the ominous phenomenon of terrorism, saying they will undoubtedly play a determining role in establishing lasting peace and stability in the Arab country in the future.

The Iraqi official, in turn, praised the Islamic Republic's support for the Iraqi nation and government in their fight against terrorism, calling Iran "a true friend" that has always backed Iraq in difficult times.  Khairallah also called for enhancing Tehran-Baghdad relations.
