The foreign ministry spokesperson said the Saudi charge d'affaires was summoned to the foreign ministry on Monday to hear Iran's protest about the Saudi airstrikes targeting areas near the Iranian Embassy in the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

"In relation to the Saudi air raids hitting areas close to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sana’a, the foreign ministry summoned the Saudi charge d'affaires and submitted a note of complaint to him," Marzieh Afkham told IRNA on Monday.

She stressed the responsibility of Saudi Arabia and its allies, which have been conducting an air campaign against Yemen for weeks, under international law to guarantee the safety of Iranian diplomats in the war-wracked country.

Elsewhere, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian told IRNA on the same day, "The Saudi charge d'affaires was reminded that ensuring the safety of diplomats and diplomatic premises in Yemen is the Saudis' reasonability."

"A rocket landed only meters from the embassy, shattering the widows of the building," he explained.

"Fortunately, the ambassador and other members of the diplomatic team were not hurt in the incident," he added.
