In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon exchanged views about international and regional issues.

On the conflict in Yemen, Zarif said the Saudi-led air campaign has targeted the people and infrastructures in the impoverished Arab country, calling for an immediate halt to airstrikes and the supply of humanitarian aid to the “defenseless” Yemeni people, ISNA reported.

He also expressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness to help resolve the crisis through facilitating peace talks between various Yemeni groups.

The UN chief thanked Iran for making efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis and underlined the need for immediate provision of humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the conflict.
