The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee met Chairman of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin, Deputy Chairman of Duma Nikolai Levichev and the head of the foreign affairs committee in the State Duma, Aleksey Pushkov, in Moscow.

In his meeting with Naryshkin, Alaeddin Boroujerdi highlighted the necessity of expanding parliamentary ties between the two countries, ISNA reported on Tuesday.

The Russian official pointed to common views on various political issues and said it is necessary to hold parliamentary consultations to help boost cooperation.

On nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany), Naryshkin described the talks as a "success" and said Russia backs the negotiations.

He expressed hope that a final nuclear agreement would be reached to pave the way for increased bilateral relations in various spheres.

Boroujerdi stated that expansion of Iran-Russia ties serves the interests both countries and contributes to peace and stability in the region.

He underlined the importance of cooperation in fighting against terrorism and extremism and expressed hope that such cooperation would help root out the problems.

In the meeting with the deputy chairman of Duma, Boroujerdi said some countries' "double standards" regarding various political crises are meant to undermine "international legal structures."

He went on to say that regular consultations between the two countries' parliamentary and executive officials will help find solutions to regional crises.

Levichev stated that the improved cooperation between Iran and Russia has been the result of the "will and willingness" of both countries' senior officials.

He expressed hope that economic relations would "enter a new phase."

In the meeting with Pushkov, the Iranian official stated that Iran-Russia relations are "important and strategic" and can help promote peace and stability in the region.

Iran's parliament supports any measures aimed at enhancing bilateral relations in economic, political and cultural areas, he added.
