Senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati and Pakistani Ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani held a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, ISNA reported.

Pointing to the conflict in Yemen, Velayati welcomed Pakistan’s recent decision not to join the Saudi-led military campaign against the Houthis.

He also described the relationship between Tehran and Islamabad as “strategic” and said Iran is keen to have “friendly” relations with all its neighbors, especially Pakistan.

“Efforts should be made to remove obstacles (in the way of expansion of relations) and some problems, particularly extremism in the region, should be resolved.”

The Pakistani envoy, for his part, said the level of political relations between Iran and Pakistan is acceptable, emphasizing that increased efforts should be made to help improve economic and commercial ties.
