An informed source at the foreign ministry denied the report that two Iranian officers have been arrested in Yemen and said there are no Iranian military forces in the crisis-hit Arab country.

Reuters reported on Saturday that local militiamen in the Yemeni city of Aden said they captured two Iranian military officers advising Houthi rebels during fighting on Friday evening.

Sources in the southern port city's anti-Houthi militias claimed the Iranians, identified as a colonel and a captain, were seized in two separate districts that have been rocked by heavy gun battles.

The foreign ministry source dismissed the claim as "untrue".

Iran denies the allegation that it is involved in the developments in Yemen. It has condemned the Saudi-led assault against the Houthis, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, provision of humanitarian aid to victims of the conflict, and national dialogue among Yemeni groups to form an inclusive government.
