Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani was scheduled to travel to Moscow to attend the 10th meeting of heads of the national security councils of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
The visit is made at the invitation of Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. He plans to meet Russian political and security officials.
The SCO meeting was expected to start today with the presence of officials from member states, including Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and representatives from observer countries, including Afghanistan, India, Iran and Pakistan. Given the current developments in the Middle East, regional security is one of the main topics to be discussed in the meeting.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a Eurasian political, economic and military organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
