In a press briefing on Friday, US State Department spokesperson Marie Harf clarified the US position on the removal of sanctions under a final nuclear deal.  “Iran will receive sanctions relief if it verifiably abides by its commitments,” she said, according to the website of the State Department.

“US and EU nuclear-related sanctions will be suspended after the IAEA has verified that Iran has taken all of its key nuclear-related steps. Suspension is obviously the first step. In terms of US sanctions, it’s suspension and then later termination to ensure that Iran has abided by its commitments,” Harf explained.  She added, “We expect that suspension… to happen generally within the first year (after the conclusion of the final accord). But again, this is – if Iran takes these steps more quickly, then the suspension could come more quickly.”
