The 16th Iran-Turkey joint consular meeting was held in Tehran on Tuesday, according to a foreign ministry press release.
Ali Chegeni, the foreign ministry director general for consular affairs, and his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Samsar explored ways of dealing with consular issues between the two countries to pave the way for greater economic cooperation and facilitate visits by Iranian and Turkish citizens.
They also discussed the provision of transportation facilities, transfer of prisoners and convicts and joint efforts against illicit drug trafficking and organized crime.
The two sides described the outcome of the meeting as “positive” and agreed to hold the next consular meeting in Turkey in the next Iranian calendar year, which starts on March 21.
