Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said his meeting with the Kuwaiti emir was "highly constructive."

The senior lawmaker made the remarks in a press conference after his meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Tuesday, in which the two officials addressed mutual and regional issues and exchanged views on the current critical situation in the region, IRNA reported.

Praising Sheikh Sabah's positive attitude toward peace and security in the region, Larijani described the emir's views as "helpful."

In the meeting with the Kuwaiti ruler, Larijani laid emphasis on enhancing relations between the two countries in all areas. "The two sides have already maintained good cultural and scientific relations," he said.

Pointing to the cultural and historical ties between the two nations, he noted that common cultural and historical bonds can help foster mutual cooperation.

The speaker also assessed cooperation between the two parliaments as "great".

Larijani told reporters that in the meeting he discussed practical impediments in the way of boosting bilateral trade, adding that the emir has instructed the relevant departments to take measures to solve problems in this regard.

On his separate meeting with Kuwait's Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Larijani said they discussed economic cooperation.

"We put forward our proposals to enhance business ties," said Larijani, hoping that the ambassadors of the two countries will  follow them up.

The speaker also met with Kuwaiti thinkers, writers, and intellectuals earlier in the day. "Kuwaiti intellectuals presented helpful views in the meeting," Larijani noted, hoping that cooperation in scientific fields will be promoted.

Larijani arrived in Kuwait on Monday evening for a two-day visit, which is to be followed by a visit to Qatar.
