Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has strongly criticized the United States and its allies for conducting air strikes on the positions of Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria, saying such moves by the US are meant to "humiliate" international organizations.
"What is the justification for forming a ridiculous coalition by the United States without the permission of the United Nations Security Council based on a false claim that the central government in Syria is not able to fight terrorism? How do they allow themselves to attack the country (Syria)?" Larijani said in an open session of the parliament on Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, the United States has used the same method in the imposition of sanctions on Iran and is seeking to make such interventions, the norm to humiliate international organizations," IRNA quoted him as saying.
The Iranian parliament condemns the move by the United States and its allies and believes "it is nothing but new mischievous acts to ignite fire in the region," he said.
"From the outset, Iran opposed terrorism in the region and launched a true campaign against it, but we do not regard false coalitions as legitimate and will not cooperate with them," he added.
Elsewhere, Larijani said it is a "ridiculous political joke " that the US says it is seeking to" root out" terrorism in the region, adding the US allies in the region have sponsored the terrorists operating in Syria and the US has created and supported them.
Complicated Situation
The foreign ministry spokesperson also said on Tuesday that the air strikes in Syria are in line with "previous interventionist actions which complicated the situation in the region."
"The US move to conduct strikes in Syria was outside the established international mechanisms and in violation of the country's national sovereignty and international regulations and legal principles, which will undoubtedly have many repercussions in the international arena," IRNA quoted her as saying.
"The responsibility for the repercussions of the new US actions, including the killing and wounding of innocent civilians, lies with those who paved the way for the transfer of arms and terrorists into Syria and other regional countries and fanned the flames of the crisis in Syria," she said.
Unacceptable Act of Adventure
The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs also said on Tuesday that Tehran regards as "unacceptable" any military action within Syrian territory without a request by the Syrian government and in disregard of international law.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also said, "Taking Hollywood-style adventuristic actions is not a solution to terrorism."
Taking interventionist measures to deal with terrorism will lead to the growth of the issue, he added.
