Former Italian foreign minister Emma Bonino said Iran is an "important ally" in the campaign against "sectarian conflicts" in the region, noting that western countries need to restore relations with the major regional country, IRNA reported on Sunday. She said Iran is the leading Shiite Muslim country that plays a "decisive role" in many countries, including Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
