The chairman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces said on Sunday Iran regards the “security” and “dignity” of Iraq as its own, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic is not “seeking interests” in the neighboring country.
Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said Tehran backs any country in the region that is faced with security threats, adding, “When a threat was posed to Iraq, we provided them with wholehearted support to save them from danger,” Fars news agency reported.
Elsewhere, the senior military official said it is not Iran’s policy to send ground troops to other countries to help them deal with security threats, but Iran provides military advice and “teaches nations how to mobilize their forces” to help them defend their countries.
