A senior nuclear negotiator said Iran and its international negotiating partners made “more progress” in the most recent round of talks in the Swiss city of Montreux toward a comprehensive nuclear deal compared to previous rounds of negotiations.
“In fact, in the previous rounds of talks in Geneva, we made some progress after several (stagnant) months, but this time (referring to the Montreux talks which ended on Thursday), we can say that we made more progress, although we still have a long way to go,” IRNA on Friday quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi as saying.
“There are differences between the two sides, which should be resolved. We should fill the gaps, but we have now reached a better understanding.”
He also said after technical discussions, political decisions should be made, noting, “Then it will be the time for the other side to make important decisions as to whether it seeks sanctions and more pressure or reach an agreement.”
