The Russian ambassador to Tehran said Iran and Russia should take the best advantage of western sanctions.

In a meeting with Bushehr Deputy Governor Fatollah Haqiqi in the provincial city of Bushehr late Wednesday, Levan Jagarian stressed expansion of Tehran-Moscow relations, adding, "Russia has many common points with Iran even regarding the oppressive sanctions imposed by the West, (an opportunity) which should be used to their benefit," IRNA reported.

He went on to say that the volume of bilateral trade grew by four percent in 2014 from a year earlier, which needs to be increased this year.

He said officials in both states enjoy the highest level of relations, describing as significant the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Hassan Rouhani in Bishkek last September.

Jagarian called for continuous cooperation between Russian businesses and Bushehr Province in various fields.

Haqiqi, for his part, said in view of similar stances adopted by Iranian and Russian officials on international issues, expansion of mutual ties can serve the interests of the two sides.

Referring to the great economic potential in the province, he said introducing such capacities to Russian business leaders and investors can help improve the level of business transactions.
