Chinese Ambassador to Iran Pang Sen called for "strengthening" of bilateral ties as it will "benefit" not only the two sides but also the whole world.

Sen underlined the close relations between Iran and China, saying, "Strengthening of relations will not only serve the interests of the two countries but also benefit regional and international peace and stability," IRNA reported.

He made the remarks in a speech at a conference entitled Iran-China Friendship Association in Tehran on Tuesday, which was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour. The two countries have a long history of relations, which enjoy "major strategic aspects", the diplomat said, noting that "China has been Iran's top trade partner for six consecutive years."

On the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and major powers, he reiterated China's "fair" and impartial" stance, and said the talks present "a historic opportunity" to boost bilateral ties.

Rahimpour, for his part, pointed to the growing trend of Iran-China ties in various areas, noting that relations between the two partners date as far back as the Silk Road.

"Whether the (nuclear) negotiations yield (positive) results or not, China will remain, as it has always been, our trustable partner," he added.
