The Turkish ambassador said he is making arrangements for a planned visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iran.

“We are making the necessary preparations for the Turkish president’s visit to Iran, which is scheduled to be made immediately after Noruz (the Iranian New Year beginning on March 21)” IRNA quoted Reza Hakan Tekin as saying on Monday.

“We are about to set the exact date of the visit,” he continued. Tekin stated, “We hope the meeting will not be a mere gesture; and instead, will produce concrete results to help promote wide-ranging relations between the two countries.”

The Turkish envoy noted that many memorandums of understanding are under consideration in line with the policy to expand Tehran-Ankara ties in all spheres and it is hoped that they will be prepared for final decision by the time of the visit.

He also expressed hope that the visit would give impetus to the good relations between the two neighboring states.

The Turkish diplomat said a joint meeting between Iranian and Turkish cabinet members is planned to be held during Erdogan’s visit to discuss obstacles in the way of expansion of relations and offer solutions. The first session of Iran-Turkey High Council for Strategic Cooperation was held during President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to Ankara in June 2014. The second meeting is scheduled to be held during Erdogan’s visit.
