Health Minister Bahram Einollahi stated that his ongoing two-day trip to Tajikistan is aimed at promotion of health diplomacy and medical tourism through expansion of exports and appointment of a health counselor at the Iranian embassy.
“In this visit, we seek to export medical equipment and medicine and to boost knowledge-based companies’ potential in the production and development of medical equipment in Iran,” Einollahi was quoted as saying by ISNA on Sunday.
The minister noted that Iran supplied 98% of its needs in the pharmaceutical market with locally manufactured products and that this “potential” could create an opportunity for Iran’s pharmaceuticals to reach regional markets.
He added that one of the other objectives of his trip was promotion of medical tourism in Tajikistan because of similarities in language and culture.
“We’re attempting to pick and send health counselors to friendly countries as soon as possible,” Einollahi said, adding that Tajikistan will be one of the very first countries where Iran’s embassy will station a health counselor to encourage medical tourism and promote the market for health and wellness products.
