Head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society Pirhossein Koulivand stated that in the talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart they had agreed on improving health, medical and emergency services provided for Iranian Hajj pilgrims.
“Plans have been made for next year to dispatch a team of Iranian emergency workers to this country,” Koulivand was quoted as saying by IRNA on Friday.
He also announced that the Red Crescent Society will work with Riyadh to add the Farsi language to an application dedicated to medical assistance for pilgrims.
Among the other agreed-upon topics were the publication of a book on medical experiences during Hajj by both organizations, the stationing of Iranian medical practitioners in Saudi Arabia’s hospitals during the annual gathering of Hajj and the establishment of a university for health and emergency services.
Koulivand added, “Saudi Red Crescent Authority will provide us with ambulances to send patients from Jeddah to Iran and back.”
Iranian medical workers are also set to be stationed in the paths taken by pilgrims to be available in case of health problems such as dehydration.
Riyadh and Tehran resumed diplomatic ties in March in a deal brokered by China following years of rupture in relations.
