Majlis Approves New Industry Minister

The Iranian parliament on Tuesday gave a vote of confidence to Abbas Aliabadi to take the helm of the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry.
The government’s proposed candidate won 187 votes in favor and 58 against from the 255 parliamentarians present at the open session, with 8 abstentions and 2 spoilt ballots, IRNA reported.
Majlis Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf wished him success, hoping that the ministry would take important steps toward the growth of production under the new management.
Former industry minister Reza Fatemi Amin was dismissed in late April after an impeachment hearing over his inefficiency in several areas, but particularly for his mismanagement of the automobile market that has resulted in unjustifiably soaring prices.
He had earlier been brought before the parliament last year, but managed to win a vote of confidence and remained in office only to hold on until April.
The ministry was headed by Mehdi Niazi as caretaker during this period.
Aliabadi has a PhD in mechanic engineering and has worked in the academic sector before moving on to executive organizations.
He has had posts in state bodies, including the energy ministry, as well as the private sector, but is most known for his latest position as CEO and head of the managing board of the MAPNA group, Iran’s leading holding company involved in industrial projects.
