Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said growth in production will be definitely attainable by practically encouraging public participation in economic activities.
“Allowing people’s participation is one of the requirements of actualizing the slogan of the year,” he said in an address to a group of authorities on the occasion of fasting month of Ramadan on Tuesday, Leader.ir reported.
In his New Year message, the Leader chose “inflation control, growth in production” as the motto of the year.
He noted, however, that this selection does not mean a disregard for social, cultural and other sectors.
“But a disordered economy will affect society’s culture as well,” he said.
He reiterated that economy is the most important issue of the country as it is linked to people’s livelihoods.
“High inflation rates for consecutive years … will disturb the balance of income distribution in the country,” he said.
Consequently, he added, some groups remain deprived while others accumulate wealth, both of which would cause corruption.
“It is important to control inflation in a way that it doesn’t result in recession and helps production growth,” he said, stressing that this is “possible”.
The Leader highlighted the country’s capacities, including natural and human resources, saying all must be used to realize “inflation control and growth in production.”
Foreign relations is also an important potential that must be exploited toward accomplishing this year’s goals, according to Ayatollah Khamenei.
“Foreign relations is not just ties with the United States and a few European countries, there are more than 200 countries in the world which have their own capacities,” he said.
The Leader later underlined the importance of stability in economic policies and decisions, saying repeated changes are detrimental for the country as they will confuse investors and entrepreneurs.
He finally called for a serious fight against corruption in economy, which he described as a “contagious disease”.
