Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the European Union’s recent decision to put the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), Iran’s biggest tanker firm, back on its sanctions list was an illogical move.
“Their move defies logic because the West has not yet realized that sanctions are a kind of cost rather than an asset for them, with which they cannot achieve their goals,” Zarif told Mehr news agency on Friday. Zarif said a viable nuclear deal will be unlikely as long as the western countries regard sanctions as an effective means to pursue their objectives. “If they really think that their sanctions are effective, why do they negotiate with us? They (can) continue their sanctions.”
