Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani called Germany’s human rights claims into question, highlighting Berlin’s history of crime against humanity during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-89).
“How can they reserve themselves the right claim defending the rights of Kurdish women while they have equipped the aggressor regime of Iraq and targeted not only military people and soldiers but also our Kurdish women, children and men by chemical bombs in Sardasht and other areas?” he asked, speaking on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare, ISNA reported.
It is not possible to believe that a regime that commits crime against humanity in the past, recently has become the flag-bearer of defending the rights of Iranian women.
“Is this anything other than a blatant hypocrisy?” he said.
Germany has spearheaded international action against Iran over human rights claims, accusing Tehran of a crackdown on protesters following the death of a young Kurdish girl in September.
