The government cabinet on Sunday gave a vote of confidence to Alireza Fakhari to assume the post of governor-general for Tehran province.

He replaced Mohsen Mansouri who was appointed earlier as vice-president for executive affairs by order of President Ebrahim Raisi.

Fakhari, who was suggested by Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, was deputy minister for roads and urban development and head of the National Land and Housing Organization of Iran before taking the new position, reported.

He has also served as deputy governor-general of Tehran, governor of Damavand County, CEO of the Real Estate Organization of Tehran Municipality, board member of the Iran Road Construction Company and advisor to the oil minister.

Governor-generals are the political, administrative and security arms of the executive branch of power in each province and oversee the operations of governors in every county.
