The spokesperson for the Guardian Council announced on Wednesday that the next parliamentary election and the Assembly of Experts election will be held on February 26, 2016.
Nejatollah Ebrahimian said in a recent to letter the Guardian Council, the interior ministry had proposed two dates for the elections, adding that members of the council decided that February 26 is an appropriate date to hold the votes, IRNA reported.
He added that the decision has been communicated to the interior ministry. The council comprised of six jurists and six faqihs (experts in Islamic jurisprudence is tasked with approving the qualifications of candidates and supervising the conduct of elections.
