Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to boost relations between Iran and Syria, highlighting the strong determination of the two countries’ governments to expand bilateral cooperation.
“This connection and ties are vital for both countries and must not be allowed to weaken, but we must strengthen it as much as possible,” he said in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Tehran, which was also attended by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Leader.ir reported.
He also commended the resistance of the Syrian nation and their victory in an international war, saying it brought higher degree of respect and credit for this country in a way that all countries look upon it as a power now.
An important factor which was influential in Syria’s victory was the president’s own high morale, according to the Leader.
“God willing, you would be able to reconstruct the ravages of war with the same morale,” he said.
The Syrian president thanked the Iranian nation and government for their support, saying Iran’s steadfastness and unwavering stances in the past four decades on regional issues have shown the entire world that its path is a correct and principled path.
He added that the ravages of war could be reconstructed, but if principles are lost, they cannot be reconstructed.
“Some think that Iran’s support for the resistance front is in the form of arms assistance, while the most important support and assistance by the Islamic Republic is infusing a spirit of resistance and maintaining it,” he said.
He also noted that what prevented the Zionist regime from dominating the region was Tehran-Damascus strategic ties, stressing that it must persist resolutely.
