Overnight fatalities from the coronavirus hit a three-month low of just below 20 on Wednesday as 19 provinces across the country reported zero deaths.
Data collected by the Health Ministry from throughout Iran showed that the daily death toll returned to 19 after 92 days, ISNA reported.
Some 27 provinces registered zero or only one death in the past day. The Iranian government has removed almost all restrictive measures but continues to encourage vaccination for its population of 85 million people.
More than 64.2 million have received the first the dose, 57.4 million have been given both shots and 26.8 million have been administered the third booster shot.
Over the last day, 16,000 more patients tested positive for Covid-19, pushing the national tally of cases to 7.21 million.
Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said on Wednesday that 7,000 Iranians have lost their lives to the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
“The reason for the decline in death rates was the effective vaccination carried out with the help of people,” he pointed out.
Health experts were expecting a rise in cases and mortalities following widespread travel and social gatherings during New Year holidays in late May and early April.
