The deputy foreign minister said the future of Syria should only be decided by its own people.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with a Syrian media delegation in Tehran on Sunday.
"As the Syrian government and nation managed to strongly combat terrorism, they will also succeed in handling the political process in the country," IRNA reported him as saying.
Calling the people a "great asset" in the developments in the Arab country, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs expressed congratulations on the victories achieved in the battlefields against terrorist groups, particularly in the southern areas of the crisis-hit country.
He also highlighted the key role of the Arab state in regional and international developments.
Amir Abdollahian described the development of a political mechanism as the ultimate solution to the crisis in Syria which would underpin national reconciliation in the country.
The Syrian delegation also noted, "Syria has always stood by Iran as of its (1979) Islamic Revolution and throughout the years the two governments and nations have fought against common enemies in the region to defend the rights of other nations, particularly the oppressed Palestinians."
