Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei lauded Martyr General Qasem Soleimani as a “lasting and ever-living reality,” saying his killers will be among the forgotten in the course of history.
“As some have correctly said, ‘Martyr Soleimani’ is more dangerous for his enemies than ‘General Soleimani’,” he said in a meeting with his family and members of his commemoration taskforce on Saturday, Leader.ir reported.
Top commander General Soleimani was assassinated on Jan 3, 2020, in Baghdad in a drone strike on direct order of former president of the United States, Donald Trump, along with his companions, including Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
His tragic martyrdom brought millions of mourners to the streets both in Iran and abroad.
The Leader described the general’s martyrdom as an incident of both national and Islamic-international significance.
The presence of millions of people in his funeral indicated that he is Iran’s most national figure, according to the Leader, while the growing reverberation of his name throughout the Islamic world proves that he is also a prominent personality for the Muslim community.
The White House is now responsible for the “terrorist attack” that was carried out by the then US government, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry
“Today, in our region, Soleimani is the symbol of hope, confidence, courage, perseverance and victory,” he said, highlighting his growth as a role model for the young generation in the region and the Islamic world.
Iran immediately retaliated the assassination by targeting locations hosting American forces in Iraq by missiles, but declared that the ultimate revenge would be the US expulsion from the entire region.
Ayatollah Khamenei said today, thanks to his dear blood, America has escaped from Afghanistan and is forced to pretend to be exiting Iraq and declare to have an advisory role without military presence, while in Yemen, the resistance front is advancing and in Syria, the enemy is stranded and hopeless of future.
“In general, the resistance and anti-arrogance movement in the region is working and progressing more actively and hopefully today than it was two years ago,” he said.
The way arrogant powers try to eliminate Soleimani from cyberspace is also a sign of their fear of the prevalence of his ideals, according to the Leader.
Definitive Responsibility
Iran is holding week-long activities to commemorate the second anniversary of General Soleimani’s martyrdom while the main event is expected on Monday.
On Saturday, thousands of young Iranian women gathered in the capital Tehran for a ceremony, dubbed “the Girls of Haj Qasem,” where they renewed their allegiance to the ideals of the martyred commander.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Twitter that the current US government bears definitive international responsibility for this crime.
“Undoubtedly, the criminal act of the United States in martyring general #Soleimani is a clear manifestation of a ‘terrorist attack’ that was orchestrated and carried out in an organized manner by the then US government for which the White House is now responsible,” it said, in reference to President Joe Biden’s administration.
In Iraq, people also took part in a massive march in the capital Baghdad to pay tribute to General Soleimani and Muhandis.
