Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said Iran has brought in 120 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines and the figure is expected to reach 180 million in two weeks.
The minister on Tuesday said Iran’s vaccine imports will “definitely” climb to 180 million before mid-November, IRNA reported.
Some 1.13 million coronavirus vaccines were injected in one single day, data gathered by the Health Ministry on Wednesday showed, bringing the total number of shots given to 76.5 million.
More than 49.7 million people have received a first dose and 26.8 million have been fully vaccinated since the start of the national vaccination campaign in February.
Despite the recent ramped-up vaccine rollout, Einollahi warned that a sixth wave of the virus will emerge in November.
“We have this concern and we know that [another wave] will definitely arrive,” the health official said. “But we are fully prepared to fight the Covid-19 disease’s sixth wave.”
During the peak of the fifth wave in summer, Iran reported 50,000 daily infections and over 700 overnight deaths.
