President Hassan Rouhani has congratulated former Afghan finance minister, Ashraf Ghani, as the winner of country’s presidential vote.
The president sent a message to Ghani on Sunday, saying Iran hails the formation of a national unity government in Afghanistan. Rouhani stated that the formation of the unity government is the basis to further strengthen security and stability in the country, Press TV reported.
He also hoped for further expansion of relations between Iran and Afghanistan during Ghani’s tenure. The chairman of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC), Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani, declared Ghani as the winner of country’s disputed presidential vote.
Under the deal, Abdullah is due to fill the new post of chief executive officer, which will be similar to the role of prime minister.
