Neighborly Coop. High on New Admin’s Agenda

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reiterated Iran’s resolve to cooperate with all neighbors, including the United Arab Emirates, saying the two countries can make strides toward promoting good neighborliness in the region.
In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian said he had “a positive and cordial conversation” with UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the sidelines of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership which was held on August 28.
The top Iranian diplomat said during his conversation with the Emirati premier, the two sides “spoke about the positive intentions and will of the two countries’ leaders to strengthen ties and emphasized fraternal relations between the two states.”
“Iran and the UAE can take big steps toward cooperation and realization of the policy and diplomacy of good neighborliness,” he said.
“We consult, converge and cooperate with neighbors to advance our relations and make regional cooperation happen,” he said. “Working with neighbors is a priority for the 13th [Iranian] administration.”
On Saturday, Sheikh Mohammad said in a tweet that he had met the Iranian foreign minister on the sidelines of the Baghdad summit.
He wished Amir-Abdollahian success in developing positive ties with neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, Tehran’s Ambassador in Baghdad Iraj Masjedi said in a tweet that Iran and Saudi Arabia have held three rounds of talks in the Iraqi capital thanks to the Baghdad government’s cooperation, and that a fourth round will be held now that a new administration is in place in Iran.
He said the Islamic Republic has expressed its readiness for dialogue and peace and offered a helping hand to neighbors and regional countries.
The diplomat said regional countries should have no worries when it comes to Iran, and that it is the enemies of this region that attempt to stoke fears about the Islamic Republic.
“Iran’s position is transparent and completely friendly. We share borders with 15 countries and have good relations with all of them,” he stressed.
