President Ebrahim Raeisi appointed Mohsen Rezaei as vice president for economic affairs in a decree on Wednesday. 
He will at the same time serve as secretary of the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Board and the High Council for Economic Coordination between the branches of power, President.ir reported.
Rezaei, 67, has a PhD in economy from Tehran University and was a commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps for 16 years. 
Since 1997 until the present day, he has served as secretary of the Expediency Council, an administrative assembly in charge of discerning the interests of the Islamic Republic by resolving internal conflicts. 
Rezaei has stood as candidate in four presidential elections so far, winning none. 
Most recently, he ran for president in the June 18 poll where he came second behind winner Ebrahim Raeisi.
