Covid Deaths Top 90,000

Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus outbreak surpassed 90,000 on Thursday as the fifth wave of the pandemic gathered pace across the country.
The Delta variant, first found in India, has triggered a resurgence in coronavirus infections and deaths over the past few weeks, with daily cases crossing the 30,000 mark for the first time since the start of the outbreak, IRNA reported.
Iran is ramping up vaccine rollout to tackle the highly contagious mutation by increasing the speed of both vaccine injections and imports.
On Thursday, Health Minister Saeed Namaki announced the administration of a record 430,000 doses in one day.
New vaccine batches are also being delivered to the Health Ministry for distribution. Some 1.8 million jabs of AstraZeneca, manufactured and donated by Japan, arrived into the country in the early hours of Friday.
Russia also resumed the import of its coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V to Tehran on Thursday, delivering a shipment containing 100,000 shots.
