Iran’s top negotiator in the talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal met with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna for talks about the ongoing negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, an Iranian envoy said.
Iran’s ambassador to the Vienna-based international organizations announced in a post on his Twitter account that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi met in the Austrian capital on Friday to discuss “the latest developments around the JCPOA negotiations and possible assistance of the IAEA in this process.”
“They also reviewed mutual interactions and cooperation between Iran and the IAEA,” Kazem Gharibabadi added.
The ongoing push to revive the nuclear deal started Vienna in early April between Iran and the remaining members of the nuclear deal, namely the UK, France, Russia and China plus Germany.
The US left the JCPOA in 2018 and restored the economic sanctions that the accord had lifted. Tehran retaliated with remedial nuclear measures.
The current negotiations examine the potential of revitalization of the nuclear deal and the US likely return to it.
