Iran, Japan Aim to Promote Judicial Ties

Iranian and Japanese officials explored avenues for the promotion of legal and judicial interaction between the two countries.
Iran’s Deputy Justice Minister for Human Rights and International Affairs Mahmoud Abbasi and Japan’s Ambassador in Tehran Aikawa Kazutoshi held a meeting in Tehran on Saturday.
The two officials weighed plans for the enhancement of legal and judicial relations between the two Asian nations.
Referring to a treaty on the extradition of convicts that Iran and Japan signed in 2016, Abbasi expressed Iran’s readiness to promote the judicial relations with Japan to a higher level, IRNA reported.
He also proposed the idea of striking bilateral agreements on civil, criminal, commercial, and extradition affairs.
Abbasi also hailed Japan’s logical stances at the international and human rights forums and its votes in favor of Iran in the human rights conferences.
The Japanese envoy pointed to the longstanding relations between the two countries and their friendly and effective ties, saying Japan welcomes the expansion of legal and judicial relations with Iran.
He also noted that Japan will transfer four Iranian convicts to Tehran within the next two weeks in compliance with the agreement on the extradition of inmates.
