Top diplomats of Iran and Syria discussed ways of boosting bilateral relations in all fields, particularly in economy, to overcome the inhuman impacts of unilateral coercive measures imposed on both states.
In a phone call on Thursday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Syrian counterpart Faysal Mikdad reviewed the outcomes of the recent meetings held within the Astana peace format in the Russian city of Sochi and international consultations on obstacles to the return of security and stability to the entire Syrian territory, SANA reported.
The two ministers also talked on the progress of Constitutional Committee’ efforts and the outcomes of the latest round of discussions held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Both sides stressed the need for Syria’s leadership of the committee in accordance with the agreed procedures and without any external interference and agendas or timetables imposed from outside.
Mikdad appreciated Iran’s support for the Syrian people in various fields, particularly in economy, to ease the impacts of foreign unilateral economic pressure.
Zarif reaffirmed that Iran will continue to support Syria in all fields, particularly in the war against terrorism, to find a solution to preserve the interests of the Syrian people and the Arab country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mikdad had hosted Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh in Damascus, where they exchanged view on developing bilateral ties.
