Experts Convene on March 6-7

A member of the Assembly of Experts' presiding board said the chair of the assembly will be appointed at the next meeting of the clerical body which is scheduled to be held on March 6-7.
Speaking to Fars news agency on Saturday, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said the 17th meeting of the fourth Assembly of Experts will be held at the former building of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Tehran.
He reiterated that according to its rules of procedure, the assembly has placed the election of its chair high on the agenda after the demise of former chairman Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, who died on October 20, 2014 after being in a coma for months.  On the process of the election, he said the candidates for the post of chairman will be introduced on the first day of the meeting.
Since the late ayatollah went into a coma and after his demise, First Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Shahroudi has presided at the meetings.
Elsewhere and in response to a question by IRNA correspondent regarding his possible candidacy for the assembly's chairman, Ayatollah Khatami said in view of the fact that great figures are present at the assembly, he will never stand as a candidate for the post.
The election to choose a chairman and the presiding board is held on a biennial basis and through the direct vote of the members.
