Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday Pakistan has strong relations and good understanding with Iran.
Imran Khan made the statement in a meeting with researchers and senior media persons on Monday, IRNA reported.
He said when his government came into power, the ties with Iran were not satisfactory, but today “I can say that there are excellent relations between the two countries.”
“We have a good understanding with Iran to develop relations,” the Pakistani premier, who has always stressed the need for lifting US sanctions on Iran, said.
Khan said anti-Iran sanctions sabotage the development of trade between Iran and Pakistan.
“Unfortunately, Iran faces sanctions that hamper expansion of trade cooperation with Pakistan,” he added.
Speaking at an international conference in Islamabad in October, Khan said Pakistan could benefit from Iran’s economic potential if anti-Iran sanctions were lifted and relations between Tehran and Washington saw an improvement.
Expressing hope for the resumption of talks between Iran and the West, he said, “If the sanctions are lifted, Iran has the capacity to become a real economic power in the region.”
