Iran's Daily Covid-19 Death Toll Lowest Since June

Iran’s Health Ministry registered 101 coronavirus fatalities on Saturday, the lowest overnight tally since mid-June and an 80% drop compared to the peak of the third wave of infections and deaths.
“The total number of deaths rose to 55,438,” the spokeswoman of Health Ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, was quoted as saying by ISNA.
Some 6,000 tested positive for the viral disease within 24 hours, pushing the case tally to 1.237 million, she added.
During a meeting of National Coronavirus Headquarters on Saturday, President Hassan Rouhani said only four counties located in the northern Mazandaran Province are currently on red alert.
“We were successful in controlling the first, second and third wave of coronavirus cases. We contained the third wave much sooner than estimated,” he said.
The president warned about the mutated and highly contagious coronavirus strain first spotted in the United Kingdom and asked for continued vigilance to prevent triggering a fourth wave over the next two months when many businesses are hoping for sales to pick up ahead of the New Year holidays.
The headquarters’ spokesman, Alireza Raeisi, pointed out that hospitalizations have dropped by 75% and deaths by 66% compared to five weeks ago.
“The disease is on a downward trend all over the country,” he said. “These numbers are really great and the result of people observing health protocols.”
According to Raeisi, the national average for adherence to safety measures stands at 86%.
Lari said the number of patients who have recovered from the respiratory illness surpassed the one million mark on Saturday and 4,980 are in critical conditions.
“Iran has administered over 7.72 million diagnostic tests to detect infections over the past 10 months,” she said.
Some 84.4 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide and the disease’s death toll has reached 1.83 million.
